"Environmentally Anxious to Environmentally Competent"

The goal of the project "Environmentally Anxious to Environmentally Competent" was to guide young people to become more environmentally aware people and to promote an environmentally sustainable way of life, i.e. to reduce environmental anxiety through awareness. We organized a program that was attractive and accessible to young people: we conducted workshop-discussion rounds and organized environmentally friendly challenges, the young people who completed them were also recognized and rewarded.

The greater impact on the community was the promotion of environmental sustainability: we directed young people to properly sort garbage, save water, promote recycling, reduce food waste, make sustainable choices and prefer sustainable transport. In short, we wanted to teach young people about environmental knowledge through fun challenges and workshops, to alleviate the anxiety that changes in the world cause in young people.

The target group of our project was Saarde parish school students of all age levels, the workshops and challenges were also differentiated according to the age of the participants.

In the Estonian national curriculum (§ 14.3.2), "Environment and sustainable development" is identified as a common theme in education and training, so our project was a youth initiative supporting the curriculum.
